For the most part, decks in Magic the Gathering fall into one of three categories:
- Combo
- Control
- Aggro
Each category has a distinct strategy that caters to a certain playstyle. Like turning your creatures at a 90 degree angle towards your opponent's face? You'll like aggro. Enjoy having your opponent worry about what he can and can't play? You'll like control. Combo is varied, but generally the goal is to pull off a series of moves
Those are the basics and still leave doors open for variation. So of the votes tallied, which deck type is most popular?
Here's the breakdown in case you can't read the picture
COMBO 9 votes (25%)
AGGRO 13 votes (37%)
CONTROL 13 votes (37%)
Total votes: 35
The 1337-ness of aggro and control is completely unintentional.
The results don't really surprise me too much. Combo is in my opinion the hardest deck type to learn and varies between the combo. It is also the most unforgiving since one combo mistake could cost the game.
While there are variations, aggro and control tend to be counterparts. Aggro focuses on offense while control focuses on defense and attrition. I'd place control as slightly more difficult to play since there's card management decisions to be made. You want to use the correct control card at the correct time to outlast your opponent.
I'll keep this info in mind. Thanks guys.
