Hey,
Just an important misinterpretation on my part. In my previous article A look at the Scars of Mirrodin mechanics,
"The second mechanic is for fans of large amounts of counters. Part of Doubling Season now has a keyword.
In short, the keyword Proliferate doubles the number of counters of your own choosing. That's right; if proliferating will help your opponent out (for example with planeswalkers), you can choose not to proliferate those counters."
I was notified via Twitter by @jakekessler about misunderstanding this part. In short, proliferate does not double the number of counters on a card. Rather, the mechanic adds a counter of an existing type.
For the sake of understanding, here is the complete reminder text of Proliferate:
"You choose any number of permanents and/or players with counters on them, then give each another counter of a kind already there."
I misinterpreted either the word another or kind. While Jake tried to help me understand things by rephrasing it, it didn't hit me until I actually realized what doubling the number of counters on a permanent can mean. Double the counters on a planeswalker means a near instant ultimate.
And that's just bad.
Once again, thanks to Jake for the feedback. Check him out on Twitter and give him some support.
Likewise, if you have a comment/response/flame for me, either contact me on Twitter @shadowsketched or drop a comment here.
Thanks guys,
@shadowsketched
