Results of the Poll: Which Color Do You Want Most Improved In M2011?

With M2011 around the corner, I surveyed readers to see which color they want to see most improved. Does blue need the boost to make up for its lackluster counter ability? Does black need some power to compete with recent control decks?

The results are in...

And the winner that you think needs the most improvement in M2011?

BLUE

At 37% of the total polled, Blue is the color most players see as needing the most improvement.

Jace the Mind Sculptor just isn't good enough eh?

Traditional blue has gone down in the eyes of players in recent years, first losing a staple hard counterspell (Counterspell itself), then losing a staple soft counterspell (Mana Leak), then getting counterspell back for one more blue mana (Cancel).

And there hasn't been a decent draw spell since Careful Consideration and Think Twice, both during Time Spiral standard.

For M2010, players had to use both Essence Scatter and Negate to counter creatures and noncreature spells respectively.

No longer.

One of the big hype cards of M2011 is the return of the classic counter Mana Leak.

For just 1U, you can tax the opponent for 3 mana.  If the opponent can't pay it, then you counter the spell.  Early game, it serves as a great hard counter for early threats that can deplete your life points quickly.  Late game, it can cause hesitation when an opponent decides to play an expensive game-winning spell.

In addition, a modified version of the classic card Time Spiral represents one of the M2011 blue mythics.

Check out Time Reversal.

While having a draw 7 in the card pool is a powerful effect, time will tell if this card can be used in a popular deck.  Some people have already considered using this in Turbolands to recycle Time Warps.  Will it be successful though?

Only time will tell how well blue is after M2011.  As it stands now, I think it still won't get the power it needs to be a self-sufficient color.

Be sure to vote in the new poll, top and center:

What do you think is the most powerful color in M2011?

Until next time,
